We had been kept inside by illness, work, the rain for far too long. I packed a thermos of hot tea and tossed popcorn with butter, salt and nutritional yeast in a big paper bag. We met friends down on the riverfront. They brought tiny, yummy apples and Irish soda bread. For once, no one got too wet. We came home with a new walking stick and a rusty bolt, hungry already for dinner.
